Bathroom Remodeling

Full bathroom remodels across Metro Detroit: walk-in and wet room showers, custom vanities, tile and full waterproofing.

Wet-room bathroom remodel

Bathrooms are the smallest rooms we work in and the most complicated. Plumbing, electrical, ventilation, waterproofing, tile and cabinetry all have to happen in the right order in about forty square feet, and every one of them depends on the trade before it. That sequencing is most of the job, and it is the reason a bathroom takes longer than people expect for its size.

We have remodeled more bathrooms than anything else. Most of the projects in our gallery are bathrooms, in Northville, Plymouth, Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills and Ypsilanti.

Walk-in and wet room showers

Removing the curb and the enclosure is what makes a small bathroom feel open, but it moves the waterproofing problem outward: in a wet room the whole floor is the shower floor. The membrane runs well past the shower zone and the floor is pitched to a drain, which has to be planned before anything is framed.

Tile and waterproofing

Layout gets decided before the first sheet of backer board goes up. Where the cuts land at the corners, how the niche lines up with the courses, whether the pattern runs into a wall awkwardly. That planning is the difference between a tiled shower and a well-tiled one, and it costs nothing but time at the start.

Vanities, lighting and storage

Storage is the complaint we hear most about bathrooms, and it is usually solvable without moving a wall: a taller vanity, a recessed niche, floating shelves on the wall that was doing nothing. Lighting changes a bathroom more than any single finish and is the cheapest thing on the list.

Accessible and aging-in-place work

Curbless showers, bench seats, low-profile tubs and blocking in the walls for grab bars now rather than later. Done at remodel time these cost very little; retrofitted afterwards they mean opening finished walls.

Bathroom Remodeling in Metro Detroit

We regularly take on this work in South Lyon, Northville, Plymouth, Salem, Canton, Livonia, Novi, Farmington and New Hudson. Nearby but not on the list? Call and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you.

A single bathroom typically runs three to six weeks on site once materials are in hand. Tile and vanity lead times can be long, so we order early.

Common questions about bathroom remodeling

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Three to five weeks on site for a typical full bathroom, assuming materials are on hand when we start. The work itself is not the constraint; waiting on a vanity or a tile order is. We order long-lead items before demolition so the room is not sitting open.

Can we stay in the house during the work?

Almost always, as long as there is another bathroom. We seal the work area with dust barriers, protect the path in and out, and clean up at the end of each day rather than the end of the week. If it is the only bathroom in the house we will tell you that up front and plan around it.

What does a bathroom remodel cost in Metro Detroit?

A bathroom remodel here generally starts around 7k and rises with the size of the room, the tile, and whether plumbing moves. Moving the toilet or shower drain is the single biggest cost swing, because it means opening the floor. We give you a written scope and number after seeing the space.

Do you handle the design, or do we need a designer?

Either way works. Some clients arrive with a designer already hired and we build to their plan. Others pick their own finishes and we help them avoid the choices that cause problems. We frequently collaborate with interior designers in the area should you need additional design help.

Is a curbless or wet room shower a good idea in an older house?

Often yes, but it depends on the floor structure. A curbless shower needs the drain and the pitch built into the floor, which is easier on some framing than others. We look at what is under the room before promising it.
